H Tae Kim, MD, FACS FASCR
At Teton Valley Health Care, we’re proud to have H. Tae Kim, MD, FACS, FASCRS, as part of our surgical team, bringing nearly two decades of specialized experience in colon and rectal surgery to our community.
Dr. Kim is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon with 18 years of experience and dual board certifications through the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery (ABCRS). He is also a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons (FASCRS), reflecting his commitment to the highest standards of surgical care.
His clinical focus centers on preventing and treating colon and rectal disease, with particular expertise in colonoscopy for cancer prevention and minimally invasive removal of masses to help patients avoid more extensive surgery whenever possible. Dr. Kim’s philosophy is simple but powerful: “I love preventing colon and rectal cancer so I can be out of a job.” This prevention-first mindset guides his approach to patient care and education.
Dr. Kim earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. He completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Utah, followed by advanced specialty training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at West Penn Hospital/Allegheny Health in Pittsburgh, where he completed a residency (often considered equivalent to a fellowship) leading to board certification in his subspecialty.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kim has held numerous leadership roles, including:
- Robotic Surgery Medical Director at Ogden Regional Medical Center (2026–present)
- GI Oncology Surgical Director at Intermountain Health (2019–2026)
- Medical Staff President at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City (2024–2025)
- Chief of Surgery at LDS Hospital (2015–2021)
Outside of medicine, Dr. Kim enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible. He is an avid biker and climber and loves sharing adventures with his wife, who shares his passion for the outdoors.
Dr. Kim has a long-standing connection to Teton Valley, a place he first fell in love with decades ago during a climbing and biking road trip. Now fortunate to have a home here, he looks forward to becoming part of the community full-time in the future.
We are grateful to have Dr. Kim caring for patients at Teton Valley Health Care and expanding access to advanced surgical and cancer-prevention services close to home.
