John R. Janes Jr., MD
Director
John R. Janes Jr., MD, brings a lifetime of medical expertise, a deep appreciation for rural community life, and a genuine passion for service to his role on the Board of Directors of Teton Valley Hospital. Raised in Benton, Illinois — a small, close-knit town in Southern Illinois — Dr. Janes developed an early understanding of how much a rural community depends upon its local hospital. That formative experience has stayed with him throughout his distinguished medical career and now draws him to help strengthen the institution that serves the Teton Valley community.
Dr. Janes earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Illinois before going on to complete his medical degree there as well. He subsequently pursued an exceptionally broad surgical and medical training pathway at the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia — completing a general surgery internship, two and a half years of neurosurgery residency, and a full residency in anesthesiology. This rare combination of neurosurgical and anesthesiology training gave Dr. Janes a uniquely comprehensive perspective on surgical care, pain management, and patient safety that defined his clinical career.
Dr. Janes is now retired from clinical anesthesiology practice and has called Teton Valley home for the past ten years — a place he and his wife, Robin, have embraced wholeheartedly. Together they are proud parents of two children and grandparents of two grandchildren. When asked why he chose to join the Teton Valley Hospital board, Dr. Janes points back to his roots: “Growing up in a small town that depended on its county hospital, I saw firsthand how vital that institution was to the whole community. I want to give back by supporting that same kind of mission here in Teton Valley.”
Outside of his board work, Dr. Janes is an enthusiastic outdoorsman who takes full advantage of everything the Tetons have to offer. An avid skier, he enjoys both downhill and cross-country skiing throughout the winter months. When the snow melts, he can be found on his road bike or hitting the mountain biking trails. He also pursues a creative side through welding and metalwork — a hands-on craft that reflects the same precision and care he brought to his medical practice.
Dr. Janes is honored to serve Teton Valley Hospital and looks forward to contributing to the health and well-being of this remarkable community for years to come.
