Dr. Robert Douglas Whipple has earned doctorates in both veterinary and human medicine. He earned his DVM in 1968 and his MD in 1972, both from Michigan State University. He then completed residencies in general surgery in Flint, Mich. and Denver, Colo. Dr. Whipple also earned a Master’s in Medical Management in 1997 from Tulane University. He has authored peer-reviewed articles on veterinary science and human medicine. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and practiced General/Trauma Surgery for 40 years and Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine for the last two years.
During his career he has held many leadership positions and served on several boards including the Utah Medical Insurance Corporation, Ogden Clinic, Ogden Surgical Medical Society, Utah Health Alliance and Auditory-Verbal International. He has helped each of these organizations convert to Policy Governance. As a board member, he is excited about the current changes occurring in our health care delivery system and feels that TVHC can be a leader and example in this area.
Dr. Whipple’s wife Debra has earned her DNP from the University of Utah and has been on the faculty of the University of Utah. Both are now retired and living full-time in Driggs with their dog Marley.
